Much like most revolutions the Bossa Nova movement lacks a precise moment or event in time.

However, the argument about the beginnings of Bossa Nova has only helped to add to the mystique of this now world famous art form. Few things are certain about Bossa Nova, yet its fathers unquestionably are Vinicius de Moraes and Antonio Carlos Jobim .

Bossa Nova came in an era when Brazil was rather prosperous, democratic and cosmopolitan; this generation of musicians established a soundtrack for their time. This music would have poetic lyrics, classical music cords and Brazilian rhythms.

Although Jobim once said that   "Beer had a greater influence on bossa then jazz ever did", it is undeniably "jazzistic". Bossa Nova was Bourgeois; it was the Brazilian dream.

From its conception in the mind of Jobim, artists such as Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil flocked to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's cultural capital, to discover what the excitement was all about. The beauty of Bossa Nova was that every new artist that became involved in the process added his/her own twist to this most urbane, stylish and global of musical styles.

Artists such as Joao Gilberto, Nara Leao, Billy Blanco, Astrude Gilberto, Oscar Castro Neves , among others, lead the way in the 1950's helped to define the new art form with each of their individual talents. In the 1960's the generation of the children of Bossa Nova, world famous artists such as Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento took the lessons of the Antonio Carlos Jobim's music and shattered the frontiers of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) with their individual styles and movements. Bossa Nova broke the barriers of countries and was embraced by musicians such as Stan Getz , Frank Sinatra , Ella Fitzgerald , Sarah Vaughn and so many others that since the 60's have been performing and recording the songs of Jobim. Desafinado, Dindi, The Girl from Ipanema, Chega de Saudade, One Note Samba, O Barquinho, Voce e Eu, became classics that have outlasted time and helped to redefine beauty, pleasure, love and happiness.

Today Bossa Nova music is experiencing a renaissance throughout the world and again artists are adding their own touch to the magic of this music. After all Bossa Nova is more than a collection of artists and songs, it is the definition of a cool and carefree state of mind.
